JOEL PAYNE: You started this segment saying that progressives and Democrats on the left are attacking the president calling him a racist. No. You're just calling them out. Listen, you don't have to be a golden retriever to hear all the dog whistles coming out of the White House these days and from my friend David over here.

ED HENRY (HOST): Final point, David. You said that about David. David, go ahead.

DAVID BOSSIE (FOX CONTRIBUTOR): [Former Director of the National Security Agency] Michael Hayden posted a picture of Auschwitz. Donny Deutsch is talking --

PAYNE: Yeah, that liberal Michael Hayden. Yeah, that screaming liberal Michael Hayden.

BOSSIE: You're out of your cotton-picking mind.

[CROSSTALK]

PAYNE: Cotton-picking mind? Brother, let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. I've got some relatives who picked cotton. And I'm not going to sit here and allow you to attack me like that on TV. I'm not out of my cotton-picking mind.

BOSSIE: Attack you how? You're out of your mind. You're out of your mind. This is ridiculous.

Ed Henry later apologized for Bossie's statement, saying, “I want to make clear that Fox News and this show, myself, we don't agree with that particular phrase. It was obviously offensive.” Bossie later said that he “should have chosen my words more carefully.” Fox News issued a statement calling Bossie's remarks “deeply offensive and wholly inappropriate.”
