Former U.S. Ambassador To Russia On Trump Revealing Classified Info: “This Is A Complete Disaster”

Michael McFaul: “It Will Undermine Our Credibility In Working With Intelligence Agencies”

From the May 15 edition of MSNBC's For The Record with Greta Van Sustren:

GRETA VAN SUSTREN (HOST): Ambassador, NBC is now reporting this, but we're getting this all from The Washington Post tonight. We just had the reporter on who's breaking it. But what it says in part, it says it would help, this disclosure would help Russia identify the U.S. ally or intelligence capability as a consequence, U.S. ally meaning the one who gave us the information as well as intelligence capability. Your thoughts.

MICHAEL MCFAUL: My thoughts are this is a complete disaster, it's an embarrassment just as Ned said. It will undermine our credibility in working with intelligence agencies that are vital to defending America's national interests.  Without disclosing things I know, I just would be careful to assume that Russia has our exact interests in mind and we are aligned with them in Syria. That is just not true including even with ISIS perhaps. So it's just inexcusable that this happens and it's inexcusable for the White House national security staff too.
